A rather peculiar case oame on for beiring at the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Messrs Sutton and Swan, J.P.'s. An old man of about seventy years of age, named John Harvey, blind and deaf, a resident of Taradale, was charged on the information of his wife with using threatening language towards her. The threat consisted in eayiDg that he would set fire to the house and burn his wife and family alive, because he bad an impression that they were always talking about hi* blindness and plotting to get rid of him. On account of his deafness it was difficult to make the defendant understand what ha was there for, but when the nature ef the charge was impressed upon him he uttered an expressive -'Ah!" which might have meani that it was trua, or it might not. The Bench conaidered it a case for medioal examination, and Harvey wae accordingly remanded for eight days.
