IN TROUBLE,

Sydney, September "~ There was great anxiety to-day in. financial circles on it being learned that two more building and investmout societies had called meetings of their depositors to discuss their situation. The Australian Mutual Provident Building Society has a piid up capital of £28,000, with deposits and other f liabilities amounting to £77,000. The assets include borrowers' balances of £26,000, and landed estates valued at £79,000. The Metropolitan Mutual Permanent Society's liabilities include paid up capital, £125,000; amount held on deposit, £126,000 ; total liabilities, £428,000. The assets are borrowers' balances, £162,000; landed estates, £255,000; uncalled capital, £26,000. Both companies assert that they are financially Bound.
