Fraeer iv | c the chair, and in his opening remarks the ' 8 chairman stated the position of the institu- ° tion. The fi-st part of the discussion that lB followed was nearly equally divided a between necessary questions as to whether n a new committee would be liable for - the arrears into which the librarian's salary had fallen, and the rather unnecessary n heaping of blame on the defunct committee. After a long debate, the following were g elected a committee: —Mrs Burmester, and r Messrs Hawkins, McPhee, A. Mackay, and Shuarar. The librarian donated his arrears ~ of salary (£9 7s 11) to the institution. * Votes of thanks to the librarian, the old committee, and the chairman of the meeting r terminated the proceedings. A meeting of g the committee waR held afterwards, and Mr Hawkins was appointed chairman and Mr Shuarar secretary, treasurer, and honorary librarian. It was decided to meet twice a month, and to remove the library to Mr f Shugar' s stationery office. i Am» eting of the Town- Board was held 3 last eve ning, all the members being present i The 8U? j-enumerator wrote giving the popui lation c.f the town as follows :—Males 464, r females 371, total 835. The balance-sheet 3 for tin > year was read and adopted. Tbe 1 pay-sheet was passed without discuswon. f Some necessary repairs to roads were left in 3 the engineer's hands. The Chairman asked r for three months' leave of absence owing to ■ illness. Grunted, and the Board expressed , ho.pes of his speedy restorations to health, : Some thirty-seven subscribers have been i to the library already, and it is s hoped that the institution will be now i establishei on a sound baeis. I A serious aacident occurred last evening i at Piri Piri. A coach containing Mr H. ; Low and several Norsswood people went i over an embankment. The driver, Hans ■ Blenkens?iager Olsen, was seriously injured, his right arm being broken, his left eye badly cut, and a scalp wound on the base of the skull. Dr. Wilkinson was soon in attendance and reduced the fractures. The '[ patient is doing as well as can be expected.
