Iv a paper read before the Colonial In? stituta last, evening Sir E. C. M. Braddon, Agout-Geueral for Tasmania, urged that crofters should b9 sent to develop the Taemaniao and deep sea fisheries, and ho also advocated the export of timber and apples from Tasmania to Great Britain. MR JACKSON. The Supremo Court has granted a writ of habeas corpus in the case of Mra Jackson, who was forcibly abducted by her husband. SILVER. Silver is at 3s per ounce. RKDUCKD CABLE TARIFF. Owing to a formal difficulty in connection with the reduced cable tariff between Great Britain and the colonies its inauguration has been postponed uutil May Ist, and it may possibly be later.
Telephone communication botweon Loudon and Paris has been successively carried out. FROZEN MEAT. Parts of ninety carcasses of frozen meat landed from the Kaikoura were found to be bad; 27,0u0 carcasses wero in perfect condition. Some 5000 carcasses have yet to be discharged. The insulation appears to be perfect. THE SICILIAN OUTRAGE. New Yohk, March 12. Seven hundred Italian residents of New Orleans have fled from the country fearing further bloodshed. PACIFIC ISLANDS. Honolulu, March 18. Mr Parker has succeedoil iv forming a Ministry. ITALY. Romb, March 18. Prince Napoleon, who had been in indifferent health for somo time past, died to-day. THE S.S. WAIHORA. Melbouenk, March 18. Information has reached here that the Waihora put into Waterloo Bay, on Wilson's Promontory, this afternoon, but the reason for her doing so is not stated. The Wailiora was on hey voyage from the Blufl: to Melbourne, having left the former port on Friday last.
