Syduhy, March 7. At the Postal Conference reports by heads of departments on the postal and telegraphic regulations were adopted after amendment. The principal objections were entered by Mr Gray, Secretary to the Post and Telegraph Department of New Zealand, against the abolition of "collect" i telegrams, charging for addresses, and the limitation of press messages during the day to 500 words. On the motion of the Hon Mr Ward (New Zealand) a resolution was carried to the effect that in the opinion of this Conference! seeing the advantages to be derived by America from the mail service to Australia, the American Government should be urged to substantially subsidise any mail line between San Francisco, New Zealand, and Australia. The Adelaide delegates suggested a reciprocal arrangement between Australia nad New Zealand over the San Francisco aud Suez mails, under which, if New Zealand wouid reduce the present rates to 12s per lb for letters, Is for boohs, and Gd for newspapers by the San Francisco route, she would be allowed to send by Suez at the same rates. The motion brought forward yesterday by Mr Duffy for an intercolonial penny post; was withdrawn.
