WHITAKER V. HUTCHISON.

Mr Hutchison, an defendant in tho libel suit of Whitaker v. Hutchison, has filed in the Supreme Court an affidavit in answer to thi interrogatories submitted to him recently at tlieiu.st.anco of plaintiff H soln itors. Ho re.-p-etfuliy declines to answer the first twelve queries, which refer to the manner in which he dealt with the reporter's transcript and proof- of his speech in which ho mado his indictments against tho Ministry, publication of tho speech in Hansard, and the alleged applications to the Speaker of tho House, on tho ground that they relate to proceedings in Parliament, r.upeoting which, as a member of Parliament at the timo referred to, he ought not to bo interrogated. Ho objects to answer tho remainder of tbo interrogaiions on tho ground that his answering them might tend to criminate him. Mr Hutchison is at present in Wellington, aud intends making application to the Supreme Court to definitely settle tho issues.
