An informal meeting of the City Council wascalled to-day by the Mayor in connection with declaring Tuesday a publio holiday. Tho Mayor was absent through illness. The Town Clerk explained that the Mayor refused to proclaim a holiday because it was not the desire of the citizens. It had since come to the knowledgo of tho Mayor that Tuesday would be observed as a holiday by tho tradesmen and merchants, and he would like the Council's opinion. It was resolved that the Mayor bo requested to proclaim a holiday.
