Tho strikers have torn up the private railway lino leading to the Bullambi colliery, doing damage to the extent of £1200. The telegraph lino was also cut, and a portion of the Government railway damaged. Tho owner of the colliery has now an armed force of free laborers.
The Government has decided to issue a Royal Commission to enquire into a report on "methods and principles calculated to prevent the occurrence of conflicts between capital and labor, or to mitigate their disastrous consequences. Special attention is to be devoted to the constitution of Conciliation Boards.

London, October 22. The St. Catherine Docks Company have given notice of their intention to employ non-unionists after November 4th, when the .existing agreement with the dockers lapses. At a meeting of the Butchers' Union two members were expelled and three fined for reaches of the rules. There is every prospect of the coal miners' strike here being settled in a tew days, overtures having been made to the Grey Valley Coal Company by somo leading miners at Brunner, The offer is not .trictlv official, but, in expected to be indorsed by the majority of the miners. In consequence of the overtures Mr ken,edy agreed not to euwge any more men; outside tho distriot, the men being given ill Monday to finally deoi.le. In reply to a teleotL sent by Mr Kennedy to Dunediu t_e following telegram was received this even- _,»_—" Have wired all to stop engaging men as requested, but have fifty-two r .c:ed men engaged, and cannot get out ot tho engagement. Plenty men offering from other ports. Can send round any number of good men." If a settlement is ™ged it will be on a basis equivalent to the rates rulhiL-in March last. In no ease will toe company desert, the engaged uon-un.omsts. The men seem to prefer work on a tonnage rate, but, there will practically be no .difference in the rates of pay.
