Formal measures for legalising the collection of the primage duty up to the 30th instant, and renewing tho'property tax for the current year, were introduced in tho House on Saturday, and passed through all their stages. TheVo was neither discussion or opposition to tho Primage Duty Bill, l>ut Mr Gtildic called for a division on the motion for the third reading of the Property Tax Bill, which was curied. The opponents of the hill were afterwards chaffed by Mr Fish with having cheaply posed as opponents of tho Bill when they knew their opposition wouli have no refuU. He himself disapproved of the tax, but ho recognised no principle in the division on the bill, because revenue must be raised, and had the measure been thrown out the result would have boe.il disastrous to th« colony.
