TOWN EDITION.
Of sheep tongues from this district three thousand cases were sold last year, to produoe which required 450,000 sheep.
Tho yard commitee of the Agricultural and Paetoral Society met this afternoon to receive tenders for the erection of ten now cattle yards. Eight tenders were received, and that of Messrs Meiklejohn and Hewitsou for £35 9s, was accepted. ,
The latest rumor regarding strikes is that a general strike throughout tho whole of New Zealand is anticipated. In that view tho local agent of the Union Steam Ship Company has received instructions to issue no tickets beyond the next port of call.
There was a good attendance last evening at the meeting of the Port Ahuriri Mutual Improvement Association, when Mr F. W. Williams delivered a lecture on "Electricity," which imparted some useful information to those present, while the experiments made to produce electric light were also very interesting. At the conclusion Mr Williams was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. At tho next meeting of tho Association Mr T. McCarthy will speak on "Darkest Africa."
