In reply to a question. Baron de Worms, in the House of Commons, said it was the intention of the Government to ask Parliament to increase tho military contribution of the Crown colonies where the amount at whioh they are at present rated is found inadequate to meet their share of the expense of maintaining troops there. ANOTHER CONTRADICTION. The report that Lord Randolph Churchill was about to rejoin the Ministry is untrue. Mr W. H. Smith denies that he is to be called to the House of Lords; on the contrary, he will seek re-election for the Strand Division at the next general elections. ( CHOLERA IN INDIA. A serious outbreak of Asiatic cholera has ooourred at Dharmsala, in the Punjab, where a regiment of Ghorkas is stationed, amongst whom forty-two deaths happened in two days. I MR WHITE'S DEATH. July 21. Much regret is expressed in English (Sporting oircles at tho death of Mr James White, in consequence of which the racing engagements of his horses are voided. ENGLAND AND PORTUGAL. The delimitation of English and Portuguese rights in the territories watered by tho Zambezi has been arranged, and the river has been made neutral water. It is feared that Lord Salisbury has ceded the Blantyre mission territory to Portugal. VICTORIAN LOAN. The syndicates, having been severely bitten over the last Victorian loan, aro now indignant with Mr. Gillies for announcing further issues. CHINA AND. RUSSIA. The Chinese authorities are interposing obstructions in the way of Russian exploration in Thibet. NEWFOUNDLAND FISHERIES. Mr. Whiteaway, Premier of Newfoundland, now in England, has expressed the willingness of the colony to abolish the Bait Act if the French will withdraw the fishery bounties to French fishermen.
