We founded the remarks wo mndo yesterday on Mr Smith's dealings in native land on news from Wellington, which made it appear that Mr Smith had led the House to believe that he did not lease Maori land. In the Parliamentary report of the New Zealand Times, that has since reached ua, we find that Mi Smith dM not say that he rented his land from a European, but that he had boutrht the lease of his Maori
country from a European who was making no use of tho land. Mr Smith's statement bears out what we said, and shows that tho sources of our morning contemporary's information as to what takes place in the House aro not tilwavs to be relied on.
