W---__._n&ton, This day. ' By the Ruapohu there returned to the colony Clampett alias Sullivan, the unconverted athlete. Questioned as to his future intentions, he said that he waa done with the religious racket, and had resolved to resort to the ways of men of the world; With this idea he had written to Professor Miller to come over from Melbourne and. join him in a gymnastic exhibition, and a lecturing tour on physical culture. Aa to bis experiences since he left Auckland for 'Frisco, Clampett said that wherever he went in America or England he found that copies of a New Zealand Methodist publication containing an exposure of his religious career in this colony had preceded him, and as his friends were turned against him, he was thrown on his, own resources, and had perforce to resort to gambling and the ring. He did not box himself, but had made money by backing others. Clampett denies that he ever oh any occasion since leaving this colony attempted to impose upon religions ; denominations and asserte that he finds his own profession much more renumerative.

Wellington, Last night. Arthur Clampett, who was a passenger by the Ruapehu, writes the following letter to the Evening Press : — "Sir,— My sole intention is to make a public apology in the near future. For this reason I have crossed the ocean, and hope by my life and ability to prove to the community of New Zealand an advantage in my own profession. I shall return the amount of my passaee to the gentlemen who have been so anxious for my return with many thanks. I regretted leaving the colony, and I trust that the. future will tell better things. Ood forbid that I should ever experience a repetition of the past. — Yours respectfully, Arthur Clampett, alias G. T. Sullivan."
