ILLICIT DISTILLATION.
Wellington, This day. The man Waters, arrested in Dunedin, is an ex-Inspector of Distilleries of Queensland. He wrote from Melbourne to the Customs authorities saying ho had seen a still at work iv InvercargiU, and know of one in Dunedin. The Customs paid his expense- from Melbourne, and allowed him travelling expenses for a mouth while ho was unearthing illicit stills. They had previously ascertained ho really had been in Queensland, and had obtained his credentials. Waters has not communicated with them since his arrest. DUNKDI-T, This day. Elliott, charged at tho City Court, with conspiracy, was remanded till to-morrow. Bail was allowed iv £2CO, and two sureties I of £100.
