THOMAS, THE DEFAULTER. Sydnby, This day. Tbe case of Thomas, the defaulting teller of the Bank of New Zealand, cropped up in tho Legislative Council, and tho action of the Magistrate was severely criticised. Tho matter dropped without any action being taken. A WELL DESERVED TRIBUTE. Tbe funeral obsequies of Searle will take place on Saturday. It is proposed to erect a monument to him at tho finish point of tho champion course ou the Parramatta river. SHIPPING. Arrived—Mariposa, with the Frisco mail; and Bothwell Castle, from New Zealand. Melbotjbnb. This day. Arrived— Manapouri from the Bluff. NATIONAL MONUMENT TO SEARLE. Many thousands followed Scarle's remains to the railway station; the body was sent to Sydney. The streets were thronged, and the mournful procession was a very impressive one. It is suggested that a national monument should be erected over his grave.
