Thk Southland Times, speaking of the forthcoming Exhibition, says the building itself is not much to boast of. It hae no architectural pretensions. Howovor well the plan may have looked on paper, it must be confessed that the main front has a mean, squat appearance. But this is a matter of no great moment, so long as the interior of the building 'is fairly well arranged, though an imposing look is not to be despised even in a temporary wooden erection. It bos been said before in these columns that the site is not all that could have been desired. It is low, and surrounded by railway sheds and other edifies of an equally uninteresting character. There was of course all the more reason on that account why the Exhibition building should have had some character and distinction. It ought to have presented a stately front to the visitors, instead of disappointing their expectations, as it will be apt to do. Let us hope that the exhibits and the general arrangement of the show irside, will amply compensate for the meanness of the exterior. The building is practically finished. It is merely a series of sheds, divided into comp<irtments, and surrounding an uncovered space which is laid out as a garden. It is painted pale blue, roof and walls, but the decorating of the courts and bays is not much more than commenced. If, however, we may judge from what is already done, Dunedin will have no reason to be ashamed of its decorative painters. So far, the Exhibition promises to be something far surpassing the original design of the promoters. Although it cannot of course comparo with the grand ones in Europe and America, to which all the world flocked, or even with the Melbourne one of last year, it will, we have no doubt, be a very creditable show, and attract, as we have said, multitudes of visitors from far and near.
