Deaji Sib, —Being intimate with one of the Principal Supervisors of Kxcise here, I sent him a few dozen of Messrs Speight & Co.'s Duuediu Beer, with the object of setting an opinion of the Excise Chemist on it, and 1 ura glad to say he has pronounced it one of the Finest JJeera he ever analysed, it having the high specific gravity of 1080 deg., the greatest amount of spirit, and the best quality of acid he ever came across. When I toll you that every shipment of Beer going out of the Clyde must be sampled by the Excise Officers, and then analysed by their Chemists, I consider this opinion is better thau anything else I could e«y on it. At present the Beer is too flat to send to anyone but an expert in the trade, but as coon as it comes into condition I will have it distributed.
