WANGAKtir, L-i.'t night. I can vouch for the correctness of tho following paragraph which appeared in tho Wtingatmi Herald this evening : — "We have been shown a letter from an engineer in England which came out by tho fast mail, in which it is stated that the Now Zealand Government had referred this intention of the present state of the New Plymouth harbor to Sir John Code, find that the gentleman had given an opinion to the effect that the prosecution of tho work ought to be abandoned, and that the present work can only bo used by constant expensive dredging, md even if this is done the excessive quantity of sand which is surely being cast np may make it impossible to keop a narrow channel open inside tho j>re3eut breakwater."
