THE NAPIER JUNIOR TEAM IN WELLINGTON. THE ATHLETICS DEFEATED. |FEOM OUE SPECIAL BEPOBTEB.] |BY TELEGRAM.] Wellington, This day. The junior team from Napier played their first match against tho Athletics at Newtown Park yesterday afternoon. It had been raining all Monday night and Tuesday, which made the ground very sloppy. The game resulted in a victory for the visitors by three points to nil. Reardon captained the Pirates, and Luckio tho Athletics. The game was a forward one throughout, and the backs bad little to do. In the first spell, from a good combined rush, the visitors carried tho ball over the Athletics' line, when Miller scored a try. Although at a very difficult angle, O'Connell put the ball beautifully over the bar. The Athletics were forood occasionally, and the visitors had pretty well the best of the game. A very strong galo was blowing right across tho field. The backs of both teams did not play up to form. It has been raining all Tuesday night and this morning, with a heavy gale, so the Park will be very sloppy for tho match with the Rivals this afternoon.
