Sic,—Dr. MoGregor, Inspector of Hospitals, Asylums, &c, a near relation of Sir Kobert Stout, to whom he is indebted in the first instance for his present rosy .billet of £1200 a year and travelling expenses,' says in his recent report that"" nothing but the tax-gatherer at the door will make the colony rouso itself to stamp out the professional pauper," &c, &o. The professional pauperism •which requires stamping out ia New Zealand is that of the professional politician, who cadges for and obtains fat billets for himself and relations, with perhaps a Brummagem title thrown in, and then poses as thefriend of the working , classes, but secretly plots with, cunningly devised un- Charitable Aid Bills to deny them the viglih to live when thoy become old and poor*' . Sir, I think the reading of Dr. McGregor's report on charitablo aid (a more.re-hash by the way, of last year's report) is calculated to fill tho breast of every humane and Christian man in the colony -with disgust and contoinx>t. —I am, ■&<!.,
