New Plymouth, This day
Mr Samuel's letter to tho Minister for Justice relative to the charges against the R.M. is published in the Herald to-day, in which Mr. Samuel says, " Great indignation is felt by all right minded and respectable persons at the attack made." He goes on to say:—" There are in this community some two or three persons of tho vilost character who are utterly unscrupulous, and possess cunning and audaoity, who have for several years past tried to influence the decisions of the Court hero in their favor against the respectable portion of tho community. The object of these people is to get Mr. Rawson removed, with the hope of getting a more pliable or timid .Tudgo in his place, who, with tho fate of his predecessor beforo him, may bo subject to their influences in future." The letter is a long one, and in conclusion he asks that the names of the burgesses who waited on the late Mayor bo obtained and published.
