CIVIC AFFAIRS AT THE THAMES.

Tho Mayoral election yesterday resulted as follows :—Mr Carpenter, 183 ;Mr Alex. Brodie, 163. Considerable interest was taken in the contest. Mr Bagnall was elected chairman of the County Council for the ensuing year, Mr Brodie, who has held tho position sineo 18<7, declining to staud.
