Tho heavy sea has resulted in some of the loose blocks nt tho extreme end of the breakwater being shifted. There is also apparently a slight subsidence in ono part of the work. Somo of the protective stone on tho seaward face has been washed on to

the boa oh, and the way the smaller stone has been washed back towards town shows the back action of the waves is already having tho desired effect.

The Hopper barge, which wo reported yesterday as wrecked, is ashore near the contractor's black, misli's shop. Her bottom and sides are damaged, but the deck appears to be so far all right. The working machinery on deck is being removed, by tho contractor. Tho loss will be a heavy one to Mr McGill.

Messrs F. W. Williams und Kettle report as follows:—We held our usual fortnightly sale of wool, skins, hides, and tallow this morning. There was a largo number of buyers present, competition was keen, and tho different lots realised full values. Wool.—Crossbred fleeco, 0 : ] d; crossbred flagging, 3id to IJd per lb. Skins—Merino, 3id to s§dl crossbred and halfbred, 3Ad to ■l-j-d ; hoggets, 4id. Hides—Heavy weight., 4d; light, 2s&~ to 3|d; calfskin, 3Jd. Tallow.—Small lots, I|d to lfd. Our next sale will take place on tho 4th July.

The stores of the Spit merchants will bo closed to-morrow, so as to enable tho employes to sco the races.
