INTERESTING SHEEP STEALING CASE.
Wellington, This day. Richard Smith, a well known resident of Pahautanui, was arrested thero yesterday morning by Dotective Chrystal on a charge of having stolen several sheep from Messrs Wright and McMenamen's station at Tera•whiti. The arrest cuused some excitement, as the accused resided at Pahautanui for years, and has taken a prominent part in- the public affairs of the district. The accused was brought up before the Justices ot Pahautanui aud remanded to Wellington. Bail s-as accepted in two sureties of £100 each, the accused to enter into his own recognisaiicos for £200.
