gave satisfaction to everyone. The entries were numerous, and the different heats, were keenly contested. Results: —Ist heat, ~E. Roach ; 2nd heat, M'Taggart; 3rd heat, heat, M'Ewan; final heat, the prize being a handsome pair of skates, was won by M'Taggart, by four yards after a most exciting raco. A number of ladies were present who took a great interest in the proceedings.

Messrs F. W. Williams and Kettle held their first sale of wool, skins, tallow, &c, at their sale rooms, Spit, this morning. The attendance of buyers was large, and every parcel was keenly competed for. Sheep skins, crossbred, up to ojfd por lb, merino s§d, cross bred hoggets, 6§d. Hides, 4d a lb for heavy, and from 2d to 3|d for others. Calf skius, 4-jd. Fat, lsd to lsd per lb. Wool, crossbred, flaggings up to 4jd, full lots of crossbred fleece s|d to 7-J-d per lb, merino 6d to 6jd, locks and pieces up to 4kl. Their next sale will be held on Wednesday, 23rd instunt.
