Melbourne, December 31," The cricket match between Mr Vernbn's ' English eleven and a combined Australian ' team was commenced to-day. The ground was in good condition. There was 8 large attendance of spectators. The visitors went first to the wickets, and succeeded in totting up 292 before being disposed of. The bowling of thecombined team was excellent, and H. Trott (South Melbourne) succeeded in. performing the "hat trick." Appended, are the scores:—A. Stoddard, 10; w. W. Read, 10 ; Abel. 0; Peel, 0; M. P. Bowden 0;T. 0. O'Brien, 2; A. E. Newton, 77; . G. F. Vernon, 50; Rawlin, not out, 78; Attewell, 43; Beaumont, 16; extras, 6; total, 2D2. The Australians then went to the wickets, and when the day closed had scored 21 for tho loss of three wickets, Lyons making 12, Bruce 7, G-.
