SPORTS AT WELLINGTON.

We learn from- the Now Zealand Times that at the- sports 'in the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Monday, Mr A. G. Howe, of this town, ran third in the Jubilee Handicap, and also appropriated the Friendly, Societies' Cup. 'The first named event was. worth £15 to the winner, while £6 10s was awarded to second- hum, and £3 10s to the third (Mr Howe). The race was won by Smith, a limit start man, Scott being second. The final event was run "in mud and twilight,!' so says our contemporary. The prize'iri j the Friendly Societies' Handicap was a silver cup valued at £3 10s and 20s added. The race had to be run in the regalia of tho respective Orders, and caused some amusement. The Times says "the event was well contested, and the ' cup' was well earned."' ' •■'.-,.•
