EASY VICTORY FOR THE FORMER.

Wellington, Last night. To-day Hawke's Bay met a Manawatu team at Newton Park "in the presence of about 1200 spectators. Tho ground was still slippery, and good play was impossible. Tho Manawatu men wero out-matched from the start and lost by two goals and a tiy_ (seven points) to nothing. Warbrick Taiaroa, and Howe got a try each and Warbrick and Gibbons kicked the <>oa's Howe's try should havo been disallowed' but only one umpire noticed that the ball was thrown forward, and Manawatu did not dispute it. Taiaroa played particularly well. * . HBAIES SECOND FIFTEEN V. PUEEHOU. The above match, played on tho Recreation Ground on Saturday, resulted in a victory for the Maori boys' by two points to one. The winners showed neither science or combination, and won tho game alone by their superior strength. Tho ground was iri.a,very greasy state, and this told j very much"against the light team of the
Pirates. Punger and " Bono secured the tries for the Maori boys, while W. Cameron scored ono for the Pirates. K. Cameron, Freeman, A. Yates and Cowell also played well for tho losers. The natives' names were unknown.
