The committee of tho Napirr Rifles have fixed Thursday, the 9th inst., in Wardrcp's store, near the railway station, for the presentation of the company's prizes recently won.
Mr J. V. Brown's private residence is the latest addition to the telephone exchange. The number is 90.
Mr J. E. Pro vis has forwarded us a cheexue for £2 2s in aid of the Boojum-Sir Donald fund.
We are requested by Mr to acknowledge receipt of M to the Jubilee Relief Fund from the Wesleyan Literary Class, per Mr J. T. Tennet.
There was a full practice of band and | chorus of the Napier Musical Society Inst night, the work in hand going smoothly and with precision,. At the conclusion of the practice, a committee mooting was held, J when it was decided to give the opening concert of the season on the 10th instant, j in aid of the Jubilee Relief Fund, subject to the privileges of subscribers. It was I also decided that the programme for the , second concert shall include Gade's " Erl I Bang's Daughter," and the third to [ Barnett's " Ancient Mariner." We trust) the public will accord the Society a bumper i house on the opening night, and so sub- | stantially augment the Relief Fund. J Messrs Banner and Liddle sold to-day . the hull and machinery of the wrecked steamer Go-Ahead, the purchaser being Mr. J. Hawkins, and the price £13.
The members of the committee of the Napier Park Eacing Club visited the course to-day, which they found in good going order, and fixed on the sites for the jumps for the steeplechase at their winter meeting.
Our Hastings correspondent writes as follows:—" I believe that a general meeting of the members of the Hastings Working Men's Club will be held to-night at 8 o'clock. So far, the club has been a success, and has afforded very pleasant quarters to the members, also enabling many to spend a social and comfortable evening. There is a good stock of papers always in the reading-room, and the other amusements are well looked after. I may say that the success of the club is mainly duo to the indefatigable secretary, Mr _B. C. Ware. It is to be hoped that there will be a good muster of members to-night.
Our Waipawa correspondent wires as follows this afternoon: —"At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, before Captain Preece, three charges for neglect to vaccinate asraiust Wm. Mooro, George Chapman, and Patrick Hickey, were adjourned at the request of the vaccination inspector, for a month, to enable them to comply with the Act. G-eo. Pilcher did not appear, and was fined Is with 9s costs. Mirbach v. G. Robinson, claim £4 18s Cd, judgment for plaintiff with !)s costs. Startup v. Tupurupuru, claim £11 16s Gd, judgment for plaintiff with 20s costs, interpreter's fee 7s od, witness's expenses 3s Bd, solicitor's fee (Mr Loughnan) 21s. Gould v. Asher, judgment for plaintiff for 11s, with 6s costs. Mullinder v. Ebbett, claim £3 3s Id, adjourned at plaiutift's request, 17s costs, and solicitor's fee (Mr Lcmghnan) 10s 6d, were allowed to defendant. Mr Gould appeared for plaintiff.—Ward v. Sterry, judgment summons for £2 3s, dismissed. Settled, seven cases: adjourned, five; not served, five."
