SUPPOSED SUICIDE.

A gentleman known here as Dr. Brady, and who stated he was a special correspondent for the Sydnoy Morning Herald, fell in the street at Onehungo, this afternoon and died in a few minutes, it was.supposed from apoplexy, but it subsequently transpired that he had stated at the Imperial Hotel, Auckland, where he had been staying, that he intended to commit suicide, but no heed was paid to bis statment. He posted a letter to-day in a mourning envelope to his ■wife in Sydney. Later. With regard to the death of Bradly, it is stated that a week ago he told the landlord of the Imperial Hotel that he would commit suicide owing to some domestic trouble. At that date he wrote a letter to his wife in . Sydney, which he read to his landlord. The contents, as nearly as the landlord can recollect, were as follows: —"I have not got the money, and I think it the best thing I can do is to end my nrserablo existence. Tour letter to me is very harsh and unkind. Kisa the grandchildren for me." This is believed to be the letter he posted to his wife in a :" mourning envelope. This morr-ing he told several people that he was going to commit suicide by taking poison. As no lettera from him have appeared in tho Sydney Morning Herald, it is believed that his statement as to be a special correspondent of that journal was a fiction. In a letter left, in one of his lodgings for his successor from. Sydney, at a time when he intended going to Welling-, ton, he says : " Dearßodgers,—l hear lam for India after a spell in Sydney. I have done all Auckland. Leave you to do the: ■rest."" Rodgers never came to Auckland, and he is believed to be non-existant. Brady was looking for a letter from his wife -from Sydney tliis nioraing when he came into ' town,-but did not get one. It came by the mail, but strange to say went to his earlier lodgings and did not reach his hotel until a few minutes after Ids death wae telephoned from Onehunga. A post mortem examination of bis remains has been ordered and an inquest will be held to-morrow.
