The weekly returns of the Bank of England, jmblished to-day, show the proportion of the reserve to the liabilities to be 33 per cent. The total reserve in notes and bullion is £10,700,000, being £1,100,000 less than la3t week.
Consols remain unchanged at 100 J. Sydney, October 8. New Zealand wheat, 4s 2d ; oats, 2s 6d ; maize, 2s lid; Sugar Company's No. 1, pieces, £25; pollard, lid; potatoes, 50s. Melbourne, October 8.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held their first wool sale of the season this afternoon. There were 1000 bales offered and 800 bales weie sold. The attendance of buyers was large, Continental firms being especially well represented. The prices realised were excellent, good greasy merino selling up to lid per lb, and. good greasy crossbred up to IOAd. Scoured merinos realised 17 ; } d; greasy merinos of inferior qualities are lid to 2d higher than at the close of last season, and scoured merinos arc 3|d to 4d higher.
