Captain Everill has made an offer to Mr Stanhope to expend a quarter of a million in establishing trading stations and exploring New Guinea if guaranteed conces.ions. Mr Stanhope is favorable to the proposal, but has not arrived at any decision. Hor Majosty the Queen has intimated that she would prefer a rate being levied towards the establishment of an Imperial Institute, before tho contemplated purchase of a Cape diamond worth at least a quarter of a million which is in the market, or of a rate for tho restoration of Westminster Abbey, which would cost three hundred thousand pounds. Thirty hogsheads of Victorian wine at the Exhibition are fermenting. September 6. A New Zealand loan of £1,567,800 at 4 por cent, has been placed on the market. Tenders are to be opened on the 14th inst. The minimum is fixed at 97.
