Melbourne, November 3
Sir Frederick Browne, Governor of Western Australia, who is staying at Government House, is seriously ill with inflammation of the lungs. Ho is progressing favorably. The Legislative Assembly have approved of £10,000 being spent in tho purohose of a summer residence for tho Governor after a slight discussion. Maiden is tho district chosen.
A meeting of the Woolgrowers Association was held on Thursday last. Tho preliminary disposition of funds will bo as folows:—Appointment of a commission accredited to visit China, Japan, and British India, for the express purposo.of investigating the best methods of commencing operations in those countries.,
Cardinal Moran arrived by tho Lignriaou Friday night. Ho mot with a very warm reception at the steamer by many digiiitafjjs of tho church and publio men.
Sydney, November 3.
Tho Cricket Association have declined to join the Molboume Cricket Club in sending Homo a team next year. Tho Melbourne Club still intends to send one in" spite of Sydney. The wharf laborers held a meeting at Newcastle to-day, bat nothing definite was decided on. The crano assistants resumed work yesterday, * and demanded that tho contractor should dismiss thoso "working during tho strike. /
