Wanganui, This day

A sailor on board tho Wullabi, named James Mooro was drowned yesterday morning at 2 o'clock. Ho was in a state of intoxication, and had been fighting his mate, Lee. Lee was found lying insensible on tho wharf with his face all blood, aud had no recollection of anything after being struck by Moore. A coroner's inquest was held last night, and a verdict returned that doceased met his death by drowning, but thero was no evidence to show that Leo or anyono olso was to blame.

At tho meeting yesterday of tho Waste Lands Roard the chairman said that tho Wahirakoko block, which had been the subject of interpellations in tho Assembly last session, had recently come under tho control of tho Board, but ho hud received a letter from Mr E. Hcsketh, acting for Mr Thomas Russell, in which ho stated that this block wos always recognised to bo tho property of his client, and he had received no compensation. Now that those lands woro handed over to tho Board ho could not forego his client's claim and allow the Board to presume to deal with tho lands in question. Tho ohairman said that the block had been formally handed over to tho Gordon settlers, and an assistant of the surveyor-General had gono down to subdivide. Tho Board agreed to forward Mr Hesketh's letter to tho Minister of Lands.

Bishop Webber, of Queensland, Bishop Luck, and several Catholic clergy were passengers yesterday by tho Ringarooma for Sydney. The Ada Melroso, which arrived from Loudon yesterday, reports that on September 14 she encountered a cyclone, during which two seaman who were furling the maintopsail fell off. One of them fell overboard and was drowned, and tho other fell on deck and had his neck broken. Tho cabins were flooded and considerable damago was done. Tho passage generally was a heavy one.
