Tho Council met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to a question, the Colonial —■" ScSry promised to take the opinion of the law officers a 3 to whether a Resident Kgtote had any legal authority to commit without a preliminary enquiry any individual to a lunatic asylum. The Christ's College (Canterbury) Bill w «s read a third time ana passed. A number of local bills were read a first tU The Council went into committee on tho Employment of Females Bill- It was reSlved on the casting vote of the chairman, to retain the clause providing that persons working overtime should receive additional wage" The bill was reported with aincndthird reading of the Presbyterian Church Property Bill was interrupted by the usual adjournment at o o clock. Tho Council resumed at 7.30. The debate on the third reading of tho Presbyterian Church Property Bill was continued, and eventually was adjourned fall -was further" considered in committee, and ghort debate the second reading was agieett to by 19 to 10.
