Tfeoji otni own cohbespondent.] Wellington, This day. It is rumored that an agreement lias Loen come to between the Government and the Northern members, to the effect that in consideration of the latter supporting Ministers they will renew the 'Frisco mail contract, and abandon the Native Land Disposition Bill after its second reading. The first orders of the day at this afternoon sitting of the House arc as follows : — Hospital and Charitable Aid Bill, Stamp Act Amendment Bill, Succession Duties Amendment Bill, and Counties Act Amendment Bill all to be committed, and the Whitmore Enabling Bill to come on for the second reading. These in themselves represent a considerable amount oi hard work. ~ . The Colonial Treasurer will to-day introduce the Customs Tariff Bill, described as a Vbill to give effect to the resolution of the House of Representatives agreed to on the <-' 9th July, 188*5, imposing certain Custom duties. , The Life Assurances Policies Act Amendment Bill, to be introduced to-day by the Colonial Treasurer, has only one operative clause, which runs thus-" Every assignment of a policy under the Life Assurance Policies Act, 188-1, hereafter made by way of ordinary transfer, shall bo by transfer indorsed iipon such policy in the form or to the effect set out in the first form, or the first schedule, to the said Act, and signed, or, in the case of a corporation, sealed by the transferor and transferee, and shall bo registered in a book to be provided by the secretary for that purpose, and the date oi such registration shall be inserted m the form of transfer, which shnll also be signed by the secretary, and thereafter such assignment shall have the effect of vesting the policy in the assignee in the manner provided in section 8 of the said Act. The second form in the first schedule to the said Act headed 'Form of Assignment to Purchaser,' is hereby repealed." Mr Stout will probably make his Educational Statement to-night. The opinion gains ground that the motion re the 'I'risco mail service will notbc agreed
to. There is a good deal of lobbying going i on against the proposal to continue the subsidy to the 'Frisco service. 1 believe it is a fact that Sir G. Grey will make another vigorous all- round attack on tho Government shortly, and that the Vogel petition will take a prominent place in the speech.
