DANEVIRKE.

Ffhom our own correspondent.]

That wise and able administrator the Minister of Lands has got into a mess with the Waipawa and Danevirko Small Farm Association. He has promised the land to each Association and received their deposit. Who is to got the land ? Waipawa was first in the field. But Danevirke got first promise of the land. To a simple mind like mine the matter seems a little complex ; but no doubt to the extraordinary adminstrafcive power of our able Minister the question will easily be solved. I give it up. Perhaps Mr Editor you may be able to assist \is poor benighted denizen of the forest. Our highly respectcl and energetic "Knight of the Hogskin" will not let matters rest if his importunity wiil do anything. His perseverance is indomitable. Thanks to him that we have any savin the matter at all.

Danevirke is progressing apace. Host Allardico is dmaking large aditious to his Louse in view of the rapidly increasing popiddtion, and Mr Baddeley has got liis house nearly completed, and 1 heard a few days ago that another hotel was in contemplation, but I think the two will meet the requirements for a year or so yet. The only thing we feel much the need of is a b.ink,"but I am informed that the Australasia has been making enquiries as to the probable amount of business that could be done with a view to opening a branch. No doubt whatever bank opened here would get all the local business.

We have a billiard saloon almost complete, and Mr Allardicc is- about to build another in conjunction with the additions to his hotel which arc now in progress.
