December 15—Thomas Russell, s.s., for Gisborne and
Auckland. 15— Go-Ahead, s.s., for Wellington via the Coast.
The steamer Thomas Russell, Capt. Chas. Helander, was taken outside by the pilot at 1 p.m. yesterday, and steamed for Gisborne and Auckland at about 2 p.m. She took away a quantity of heavy sawn bridge timber. The s.s. Wairoa, Capt. H. Anderson, returned to port from Wairoa at 8 a.m. this day, bringing a number of passengers. She will be leaving again for the same destination at 10 o'clock to-morrow night. The steamer Go-Ahead, Captain Plumloy, sailed for Wellington via tho coast at 5.45 v.m. last ovening. * The Sir Donald, Captain J. Quinlan, is to steam for Waimarama to-night for another load of wool.

The mail steamer Australia arrived from San Francisco at 3 o'clock this afternoon. She loft San Francisco on November 21th. Her passage was uneventful. Passengers for New Zealand—Mr and Mrs Lane and 3 children, Mcsdames A. B. Snow, M. P. Snow, Galgev, and H. W. Ewen ; Misses Palk (2), Messrs Theo. T. Tinne, Tinncy, Radford, Harrison, Keen, Curcton, Lowry, Freshfield, Pinkiert, Anderson, and Shiernan, the Rev. A. F. King, and 10 steerage. For Sydney, 44 cabin and 60 steerage. Amongst the through passengers is Mr J. C. Syme, of the Melbourne Ago. The Australia leaves for Sydney at 10 o'clock to-night.
