EARLY CLOSING.
This' day,
A number, of; merchants and storekeepers met yesterday to consider the petition of the employees for a weekly half holiday. Res jlutions were passed in.,favor of granting the petition, provided the whole of the employers not present were of the same view, and that the shops be closed on Saturday at 2 o'clock. Some still consider Thursday as the most suitable day, especially for the grocers, and an effort-will be made by them to close on that day.
