APPEARANCE OF CHOLERA IN
ENGLAND

LONDON. August 19. The cricket match at Cheltenham, Australians a\ Gloucestershire, Avas resumed today. The iveathcr was showery, and the attendance of spectators Avas only moderate. The Australians, Avith two ivickets doivn for 170, continued their innings, and scored 402 before they were all disposed of. The following were the principal scorers: — Murdoch, bowled, 89 ; Scott, run out, 05 ; Giffcn, caught, Ul ; Bonnor, caught, 53 ; Blackham, caught, 20. The home team, who had only scored 183 in the first innings, then went in for tho second time, but owing to the ivickot being cut up tbe bowling of the visitors proved almost unplayable, and none of the batsmen made any stand, the score standing at the end of the day at seven Aviokcts for 38 runs. Tho remaining three players require to make 182 runs to avert a one innings defeat. (Received August 20, 10 p.m.) August 20. The Times, in its issue this morning, publishes a telegram from a correspondent at Hong Kong, stating that Li Hung Chang, the Chinese Viceroy, who has been directing tho negotiations with the French Minister at. Shanghai, has been ordered to return to Nanking. The Times also announces that the Chinese Government is understood to be determined to oppose the French occupation of Kelung by force of arms, and that a force of 5,000 Chinese troops are about to proceed to Kelung.
A death has occurred at Birmingham from a disease, ivhich is pronounced by tho local medical authorities, to be undoubted Asiatic cholera. The appearance of the disease in Enirlaud has caused much alarm, and great efforts are being made to prevent the possible spread of the epidemic.
