This Day. Tlio Board met at 11 o'clock. Present—Messrs J. N. Williams, AY White, D. Guy, and R. Harding. In the absence of the chairman Mr Williams was voted to the chair The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE. Irom Gisborne, requesting that the sum pt_£lo voted by the Board misrivt bo remitted, as £5 had already been expended.— Approved.

pupil teachers had been on his staff, and that consequently he had been deprive'! 01 the bonus allowedfor passing pupil teachers, by which his guaranteed salary of £180 would havo been reachod.-Rcsolved that tho master's salary be raised to £ 180. _ From Matawhero, applying for permission to purchase a piece of land from Mr Urenasa girl's play ground for £30 tho committee guaranteeing to find half he amount by subscription.-Resolved that be Government be asked to grant £lo to the Board for the purpose. From Napier, stating that the present liabilities of the committee arc £G0 lis Sd, and which would probably reach 1 120 at tho end of the committee s term of office, but which, Avith the usual grants, Avould be reduced to £30, and this amount is now asked for. The letter concluded by asking for au increase of the ordinary grant to £ISO yearly.—Refused. From Ormond, applying that tho bonus to tho master might be paid, notwithstanding that the pupil teacher was unable to pass her examination through illness. —Deferred till Inspector's report. From Taradale, informing the Board that the master had suffered a loss through having had but one pupil teacher to prepare for the late examination, and asking that ho might receive the bonus for tAvo pupil teachers.— Application could not be acceded to. From Tarawera, applying for the payment of the amount of vote for building school.— Resolved to do so on receipt of vouchers. From Te Arai, informing tho Board of the appointment of Mr Bolton, and applying for a grant to pay cost of firewood, cleaning, &c.— Agreed to forAvard amount at end of quarter. From the Education Department, intimating that vouchers had been passed for payment for sundry accounts amounting to £21-11 Ms 3d for the months of July and August. From School Commissioners, forwarding cheque for £300, being rents from reserves. From Captain Russell and Mr Locke, applying for leave of absence during the session.—Granted.

From the Education Department, pointing out that some of the teachers Avhose names appear in the returns are uncertificated.—Resolved that a letter be written informing tho Minister for Education that a resolution of tho Board makes it compulsory upon any teacher in this district to obtain a certificate from the Department Avithin two years. From the Education Department, enclosing an extract from the Gazette Avith regard to standard examinations. Vouchers to tho amount of £921 15s 7d Avere passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
