PORT OF NAPIER

DEPARTURES,

August IS— Go-Ahead, s.s., for Wellington via tho coast.

The s.s. Go-Ahead, Capt. Plumley, finished discharging yesterday, and at 4 p.m. took her departure for Wellington via the coast.

As tho p.s. Manaia was slewing in the tideway at 8 o'clock tins morning, preparatory to sailing for Wairoa, she carried away the ironwork on her rudder head, which rendered her tiller useless. Capt. Baxter got sail on her at once, and was enabled by this means to steer her clear of the pier-heads, and brought her to an anchor in the bay. She was brought inside again a couple of hours later, and repairs have since been effected. She is to get away for Wairoa at 8 o'clockto-morrow morning. The s.s. Wairoa's departure for Wairoa at 12 o'clock last night had to bo postponed until the same hour to-night. The Union Company's s.s. Southern Cross is due here from Northern ports on Friday next. The topsail schooner Zior is expected to sail for D'Urville's Island to-day in ballast.
