WAIROA.

[from our own correspondent.] The natives and others interested in tho settlement of native lands here by means of the Native Lands Court are much obliged to you for your valuable leader on the question of the delay in holding a Court here. I am afraid, however, we shall have to wait some time yet before our wants are attended to. Just before the general election, perhaps, tho Government, "at great expense, etc.," will have a Court held hore. A cricket match was played at Frasertown on Wednesday last between the Wairoa and Frasertown Clubs, resulting in a victory for the visitors by 107 runs. The home team only scored 30 runs and 7 extras. The visitors put together 144, including 43 extras ! Of the scores Walter Ton , contributed 51 by vigorous cricket. Tho other double scorers were G. B. Flint 14, and Cunningham (not out) 10. The fielding- of Frasertown wa3 very bad. The return match will shortly be played. Mr J. Piper finished hop-picking on Monday. The crop is not near so good as last year, in consequence of the bad season. Tho yield last year was 2700 bushels, and this time it is only 1070 bushels. The crop (small as it is) is well saved, and of a superior quality. Mr H. Nairn, of' Liston, finished picking on Wednesday last, tho yield being about 30 bales. Mr J. Torr's plantation (one year old) is doing well. The Rev. Mr Riddle leaves here next week for Wninku, his new charge. Yet another Maori Haka troupe is on the tapis. Wata Tairoa makes his first appearance in Mayo's Hall on tho 25th..
