FATAL ACCIDENTS.
Wellington, This day,
A fatal boating accident occurred in the harbor late on Christmas night. ' "Three young men named Harry Lee, James Walland, aud Thomas Williams left Ngatauranga in a boat at 10 o'clock that night on a fishing excursion. When out a mile ono of the oarsmen missed a stroke, and this caused tho boat to capsize. Williams clung to tho overturned boat, but tho others disappeared and were drowned. Williams' cries was heard from the shores and a Norwegian' named Truemun hastily' constructed ii raft with some planks and went in search. He was successful in rescuing Williams in a much exhausted condition. Both nien drowned were unmarried. The bodies'have not been recovered. v
Christchurch, This day. On Tuesday evening Charles W. Christison was killed while attempting to alight from a tram-car whilst it was in motion. Another serious accident occurred on the tram line yesterday. Charles Newman, a letter carrier, while endeavoring to get into the tram car, fell, and the tram passed over his left arm, which had subsequently to bo amputated to the shoulder. Dunedin, This day. Last evening a fatal accident occurred on the tram. A lad of about 12 years, named George Rutherford, who was one of a school pic-nic party returning from the suburbs, by somo means fell from the top of a two-deck tram, and the wheel passing over him he was killed. At tne inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. The picnic children had left the car, but the deceased asked permission to continue the journey. He fell over the side of the car. Yesterday the guard of the southern express, named M'Pherson, fell off the train about three miles from Dunedin. He was collecting tickets. He sustained two slight scalp wounds.
