HAWKE'S BAY STOCK AND STATION REPORT, NOVEMBER, 1883.

During tho past month there has been a large enquiry for sheep of all descriptions, and we have placed through the Waipawa and Napier oih'ces 20,300 at satisfactory prices. There is a marked rise in value, in a great degree owing to the abundance of

feed, some or our largo ruuholdet's having to buy stock to keep the fern down ; but, owing to tho inipreeedontud rainfall this spring, nearly every station is behind with shearing, consequently sheep that were to bo delivered nearly a month ago are not yet shorn. The following are our quotations

Cattle.—Little enquiry except for irood young steers and heifers. Our private sales have boon—For yearling steers, £2 to ,C 2 f>s and £2 10s ; heifers, 3os ( ;J7.s od, and £2; two-year-old steers, &?> to £3 los; three-year-old do, £1 to £1 10s. Beef is dull of' .sale at 17s Gd to 18s per lOOlbs.

Sheep.—Merino wedders we have sold at 4s (id to 7s (i<l, do ewes -1-tooth 10s Gd, Gtooth 7s Gd, full-mouth 5s to Gs ; cross-bred wedders we have sold a large number at 10s Gd, 11s Gd, 12s, and 12s':3d for stores, and fat at 12s, 12s Gd, and 13s; fat dry ewes, 7s 13d to 8s and 11s, for a wry fat lino of aged.

Our Annual Rain Fair, under the auspices of 11. B. A. and P. Society will be hold at tho show grounds at Hastings on 30th January next. It is expected that there will be a larger number of ranis offered than in any previous year, both local and imported from Otago, Canterbury, and Auckland, and also a larger number of merinos will be offered than at any fair hitherto in this district.

Horses.—There is very little business reported. Medium draught, £25 to £.'3O; heavy do, £-10 to £50'; light harness, £15 to £2") ; good hacks, £20 to £2";; ordinary do, £10 to £15 ; light do, £5 to £7.

Wool.—The wool is coming in very slowly, but is in excellent condition, though light in grease. By Homo market telegrams prices for cro.s.s-bred have recovered in a small degree, and tho prospects of trade are more encouraging. The Melbourne wool market in unison is active, and sales havo been reported at an advance on those ruling for the past two years.

Station Property.—As usual at this season of the year there is nothing doing, but it is reasonably expected that the present low prices of pastoral property will soon attract investors.
