We have received the following letter dated from Norsewood, which we have much , pleasure in publishing:—"Mr E. C. Latter, the recently appointed Official Assignee in Bankruptcy, has been a settler in Canterbury for at least thirty-two years, to my knowledge, and I also know that ho AVfis a merchant in Akaroa for twenty-five years if not more, and during that period was carrying on a very important business. Ho was always highly respected, not only for hisslrict attention to business, but likewise for his uprightness and integrity. About five years ago he was appointed Land Tax Commissioner for Canterbury, and then removed into Christehuroh. The clerk to the Akaroa county is his eldest son, Mr E. S. Latter. From his antecedents I should hardly think it possible to find a bettor man for the post of Official Assignee in Bankruptcy than Mr Edward Circuit Latter. I have known him for upwards of thirty years, and am, therefore, well aware that what I here state Avill be fully borne out by other Canterbury men.—l am, etc., A Canterbujiy Pilgium."
