Baxter, returned from Wairoa at 2.45 p.m. yesterday, bringing some passengers and a cargo of maize aucl potatoes. Sho will be leaving again for the same destination on Monday night. The Union Company's steamer Rotorua, Capt. Anderson, is telegraphed as having left Auckland for Southern ports at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, and should bo at the anchorage in our roadstead by daylight tomorrow'morning. She will bo tendered in the usual way by the Boojum and lighters for mails, passengers, and cargo, and at 10 a.m. is announced to steam for Southern ports and Melbourne. Tlio steamer Maori, Capt. .Anderson, returned from Wairoa shortly after 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon, bringing , several passengers and 143 sar-ks of maize, which latter she has transhipped to the schooner Saucy Kate. The Maori is to leave again for Wairoa at 7 o'clock to-morrow morning. The s.s. Weka, Capt. Campbell, returned from tho coast at 9.30 last night, bringing 190 bales of wool, which she transhipped to the ship Wairoa this morning. Whilst away the Weka called at Waimaramii, Mangfikuri, To Apiti, Poiirercrc, and Fairy Bay. The schooner Frank Guy, Capt. J. P. Balle, has cleared at the Custom House for Greyinouth in ballast, Jind will probably be Bailing on this afrenioon'n tide. The sf-camer Sir Donald, Capt. Quinlan, got back from Blackhead at 11 o'clock last night, bringing 121 bales of wool, which she transhipped to tho barque Langstone this forenoon. Tho Union Steamship Company's s.s. Manapouri, Capt. Logan, was to leave Wellington for Northern ports and Sydney at G p.m. this day, and would in that case arrive here by about midday to-morrow. She will 1)0 tendered as usual by the launch on arrival for mails and passengers, and by the steamer Sir Donald and ketch Admiral for her cargo, of which she will probably have about 110 tons. Tho Manapouri is announced to steam on her way to the north at f3 p.m. the same day. The schooner Enterprise, Capt. 8011, was to have left Dimcdiii for this port on the Bth, and would probably arrive hero during next week. Tho schooner Mury Wadley, Captain Moore, arrived at Grcymoulh from this port yesterday. The steumor Orcti is now loading breadstuff and grain at Dunedin for this and will be duo here next week. Tho s.s. Kiwi is announced its having arrived iit Ctistlo Point from this port latelast night. The Union Company's sh. On the Gth instant when tho vessel was near the coast of Now Zealand one of the seamen named Kappool, aged s'l, jumped overboard and was drowned. It appears that he was seen to jump over the side by two young girls (immigrants) who thought ho was simply going for a swim, and they did not report the circumstance for fully seven minutes later, when a boat was at once lowered and search made for Kappcel, but without avail ; after an hour's delay the steamer came on. The passengers have been allowed to'land. The steamer British King left Plymouth for Wellington on the.sth instant. The chief'officer of tho steamer Go-Ahead states that when off Kaikoura on Friday last the vessel passed a skylight with a small speaking tubo attached, apparently belong to a small steamer.
