Tho .steamer Maori, Capt. Anderson, returned from AVairoa afc 10 o'clock last night, briuping cargo and passengers. She •will be luaviug7.gain for tho samo destination at in o'clock to-night. The Union Company., steamer Southern Cross, Capt. Ross, is telegraphed as having left AVellington at 7 o'clock last evening, aud will probably arrivo hero at about tho samo hour to-night. She will discharge her cargo, some 27 tons, inside to-morrow morning, being advertised to steam from the wharf for Gisborne and Auckland at 1 p.m. Tho «... Go-Ahead, Captain Plumloy, left for AVellington at o o'clock last evening. The p.s. Manaia, Captain Baxter, left for AVairoa at 8.30 a.m. this day, with a good cargo and a few passengers. The steamer Sir Donald, being prevented from working at Torigoio to-day by the easterly weather, is alongside tho Pleiades lightering her of salt and other cargo. Tho steamer Kiwi, Captain Campbell, is to leave AVcllington for the coast and Napier to-morrow evening. Lighterage operations arc now getting in full swing again, wool being conveyed off to the ships in the roadstead daily.
(By Cable.) MEr,«oun>-K, Tliis day. Arrived, this morning, P. and 0. s.s. Ballarat, with the Suez mails dated London, 21st September. [BY TKLK.iT.U_H.] AV..r,i.i_.oTo-., This day. The Agent-General, under date London, 27th instant, wires the departure of the Ship Waitangi for Lyttelton \vil;h_ ..0-t Government immigrants, and the Victory for Port Chalmers with a complement of :.._0 immigrants. The Secretary of tho Marine Department has received a telegram from tho Harbormaster at W r estport, stating that the bar Channel at that port has altered, and now runs nearly north aud south along the bench. Tho channel has been marked with two large white beacons, each carrying a red flag"at tide time, and the usual red and •white lights for nightwork. The Harbormaster adds that there is every appearance of a flood, which may restore the channel to its former position.
