THE TONQUIN DIFFICULTY.—UNYIELDING ATTITUDE OF CHINA. EXPLOSION IN A ROCKET FACTORY.—TWO PERSONS KILLED. TWO NATIVE CHIEFS SENTENCED TO DEATH BY THE BOERS.
LONDON. September 24. Mr Edgar Vincent, who was offered the post of Financial Adviser to the Khedive has accepted the position. Rumours arc current here that tho Chinese Ambassador, the Marquis Tseng, has assumed an unyielding position in his negotiations with the French Government for the cessation of hostilities in Tonquin, and evinces no desire to arrive at an amicable settlement of the difficulty. Tho French Press strongly denounces the arrogance and pretensions'of the Celestial Government, and urges further reinforcement of the French forces in Tonquin, and the prosecution of the war with full vigor.
A serious explosion occurred to-day in a rocket factory at Woolwich. Hundreds of rockets were discharged in all directions, many %ing into the streets and causing groat havoc to houses and other property. Two persons died from the injuries received by the explosion.
