THE WOOL SALES. LONDON. August 31. The St. James' Gazette warns the Governmerit not to resist tho demands made by the Australian colonies respecting the annexation of tho islands in the Pacific. Tho Nineteenth Century contends that it is tho duty of the Liberals to avert the separation of the colonies. September 1. The Statist strongly deprecates any extension of French influence in the Pacific. At the avool sales 123,000 bales have been catalogued, and 14,000 withdraAvn. The market is strong, but irregular. Superior merinos are firm ; crossbreds are now equal to former rates, but coarse and fleece wools are a half-penny loAver. September 2. The King of Annain undertakes not to the Chinese Government, as required by France.
